Hiding Out in a Theater

Del Dios and Escondido California is a pretty interesting place so far. Lake Hodges is really beautiful. One new friend lives on top of a theater in a little tiny apartment. It has been a pleasure meeting all these young people my age here. I think if they all pulled together a little more to build a community things would be better in all. I need more time to explore the city and I might stay longer if I can find a better parking spot where can also be useful. The original community gardener gig in Del Dios fell through because the people organizing it do not own the land and the owner objected to me parking there and gardening, all of it was really lame, I guess they like the weed infested ground better than vegetables and flowers. In addition after getting into Del Dios on the first day I noticed the trucks clutch was acting up. I waited around for a few days hoping to get some help on it and John Lightner from San Diego came over in his camouflaged crazy-lowrider-stepvan and adjusted my clutch. Yeah so my fan club is getting larger everyday its kind of cool! I have been handing out more of the stickers to people I meet. I have been helping out with a great cause called Food Not Bombs in Escondido. Right now am parked behind a nice couples house. I have to leave here soon. If I try and stay in Del Dios I do not know where I will call home-base. It is important I find a home-base address because I need to get my health insurance switched over to California.

Hey, Angel, if you haven't heard by now from your new-found Escondido friends, the community has a vintage car cruise event every Friday night from 5pm to 9pm called, "Cruisn' Grand". It's situated in downtown Escondido along Grand Ave between Escondido Blvd (west end), clear to Juniper Ave (east end, near the abandoned theater where your friend lives). It goes from April through September. Since you have the advantage of being unemployed, you might get yourself a righteous parking space before other early arrivals, right smack-dab in the most populated section, where you'll be sure to draw quite a crowd with your funky '53. It might be a great venue to recruit new fans and an opportunity to find more donors to help you fix sh*t on your clapped-out truck. I have to admire your free-spirit risk-taking and courage, driving a 55 yr old truck across the continent 2x. From the looks of the undercarriage, you've got a lot of rusted leaf sprngs and shackles that I wouldn't trust; not to mention the unpredictable condition of the axle bearings and ring & pinion assembly in that rear end. I hear you balking at the $400 radiator repair, yet I'd hate to see how much they're going to ding you when you need a clutch replacement or major engine, transmission and driveline work.

Oh, hey...I almost forgot to ask, but what the hell are you doing for front turn signals? In every picture I've studied of your truck, the original parking light/turn signals have been removed from the lower grille, as well as the larger (presumably added later) enhanced turn signals just outboard the grille on each end. There are empty holes there. How are drivers in traffic in front of you supposed to know of your intention to make a turn if you lack front turn signals? That's really dangerous on an oversized vehicle like this. I'm surprised that the stupid Escondido police (or was it SD County Sheriff?) didn't mention this to you while they were shaking you down for weed and meth?

It's great to have a fan club. And friends & supporters. I'm all for it. I'm a big fan even! Ummm....relating to some of our other conversations we've had..."fame" is not the same thing though... and not a very healthy aspiration in and of itself....I worry about what you're doing sometimes...these days in 2009 now especially...I wish you would let go of the "fame" plan, and just focus on meaningful things....I wish you could again focus on the purple53 and Real Art and Ideas again, and let go of all the other superficial crap I've found out you're obsessed with lately:(
